Challenging Washington State's Decision to log older forests in Mason County:

​

On May 3, 2023, JD Calkins Law and Consulting PLLC filed suit against the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Commissioner Franz, and the Board of Natural Resources on behalf of Mason County Climate Justice and Legacy Forest Defense Coalition. The lawsuit challenges the agency's decision to approve two timber sales, Sure Wood and Plumb Bob. Both are in Mason County, despite DNR's admission that it had not adequately surveyed the sites before concluding that the sales will have no signficant impact on the environment and in the face of evidence of impacts, including to the local community.
